Three criminal laws in the country which have been in force since the British era will change from Monday 01 July 2024. In their place, new rules, the Indian Justice Code, the Indian Civil Defence Code, and the Indian Evidence Act will be implemented.
This law will replace the IPC (1860), CrPC (1973), and Evidence Act (1872) respectively. Cases will be registered under the new laws only. For this, preparations have been completed in all the country’s states.
The purpose of the new laws is to implement the modern justice system. There were 511 sections in the IPC, but there are only 358 sections in the Indian Justice Code.
